This view takes about an hour to reach via hiking, and it is breathtaking. The orchids grow wild among ohia and koa trees. After heavy rain, the mountains become saturated and waterfalls develop on the mountains, at first a silvery trickle that quickly turns into a powerful surge of white water. The waterfalls cascade hundreds of feet down the flumes of the mountains, flooding the riverbanks and flowing through the forests and wetlands before reaching the ocean.
