I have been studying Leonardo Da Vinci, reading a little bit about his life and interests and admiring his paintings and drawings, which are a highlight in the history of art. His drawings are superb! He is actually one of my favorite artists for the clarity of his drawings (and the otherworldly qualities of his portraits). With this sketch of my daughter, I took inspiration from the contour lines of varying widths in his beautiful drawings, incorporating similar colors and attempting delicate yet sculptural lines that follow the form while respecting the values of light and dark. There are volumes to learn from the seemingly effortless confidence of his drawings.
